Something I read on the web said Trump would address the CPAC conference at 3:40 p.m. Eastern on Sunday. Curious, I decided to watch, not so much to learn anything new, but to see what kind of reception he would receive. Trump was the most seditious president in our history and may yet be indicted for his role in the events that left four people dead on January 6. Would he get a standing ovation? Is Trump really the man they want leading the Republican party despite his losses?

I got an answer but a delayed one. Trump was late to his own re-coronation. The conference organizers were forced to play an hour of boring, self-congratulatory videos detailing the global growth of the Conservative Union. I gave up a half hour in, but tuned in later and caught the beginning of Trump’s 90-minute speech.

Trump waddled onto the stage and stood there for what seemed to be two or three minutes while the song I’m Proud to be an American played. It was meant to provide the audience with a chance to demonstrate how happy they were to see him. That isn’t what I saw.
