The danger of a more competent “Trump”

Last week on January 6th, 2020 our nation bore witness to the culminating climax of what a dangerous Trump could do: inspire and incite an insurrection against democracy itself. However, lest we forget, the damage done by Trump within just the past year is suitable to fill voluminous pages in the “How-to” guide of an authoritarian manual.

Within the past year he has lashed out at nearly every single major American news source, calling The New York Times, Washington Post, and CNN “fake news,” reveling in the layoffs that happened at The Atlantic while tweeting that it was “a very nasty magazine,” bristling at the Wall Street Journal for failing to applaud his White House Press Briefings, and even raging at long-time supporter Fox News for calling Biden’s win in Arizona.

Instead of seeking a national mandate on mask-wearing, which has been scientifically proven to be effective in combating the spread of the virus, Trump politicized the issue and mocked Joe Biden for wearing a face mask; a stance which significantly exacerbated the pandemic in America with the current toll at over 385,000 deaths.

Trump’s peddling of conspiracy theories in his role as President of the United States led to a spectacular rise in the number of Americans and non-Americans who fervently believe his words that…
