If the starting point of any effort to convince others of one’s point of view or to obtain support for a course of action is a lie, everything that follows thereafter is at best a farce. How big a farce — or how dangerous the con becomes — depends on the parties involved, the objectives, and the willingness of the “marks” to buy into the charade.
