Hey, has anyone seen Kamala Harris lately? You know, the Vice President? She seems to be doing a “Mike Pence”, getting all spectral and shit. I’ve seen her standing in the background of a few photos featuring Biden as the headliner. And, of course, she was sitting in the Big Girl chair at Biden’s address to Congress.
Other than that, she doesn’t really seem to have a lot to do. The Republicans have been making a big deal about the fact that she hasn’t visited the border to inspect the crisis there despite being in charge of the immigration mess.
The reality is that she has nothing to do with the illegal migration at our border. Her assignment is to get at the root causes of the illegal migration to the US from Mexico and the so-called Northern Triangle nations of Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador.
Which makes me wonder if Biden really wants her to succeed as vice president. He had the same portfolio when he was Obama’s vice president and failed miserably.
Or maybe he is so confident in her abilities that he thinks that she can succeed where he failed.
I’m still trying to figure that out.
Supposedly she has spoken to the presidents of Mexico and Guatemala, as well as officials here in the US including the Secretary of State and the Attorney General. A trip is being planned to Mexico and Guatemala.
So that took up a day or two. What has she been doing with the rest of her time? And why do we never hear about it?
She is the first woman vice president. The first Black vice president. The first Asian-American vice president. Shouldn’t we be hearing about how she is leveraging all of that to advance her agenda? And what is her agenda?
Or does Biden have buyer’s remorse?
This is where it is going to get VERY controversial. If you are a Kamala Harris fan, don’t bother reading any further, just go straight to the comments section and accuse me of racism, sexism and any other isms that I may be violating. And don’t forget to throw in a little white privilege while you’re at it.
When she was running for president, Harris wasn’t even on my list of favorite candidates. I just didn’t see her as presidential material. I think she would have made a great attorney general instead.
Amy Klobuchar was my pick for president. She really impressed me during the debates despite the fact that she constantly referred to a casserole as a “hotdish.”
Come on, Amy, nobody outside of Minnesota calls it a hotdish. It’s a casserole.
Based on the way Klobuchar absolutely shredded her fellow candidates on the debate stage, I would have loved to have seen her go toe to toe with Trump. She would have chewed him up and spit him out.
She would also have made a great pick for vice president because traditionally, the vice-presidential candidate acts as the attack dog while the presidential candidate floats above the fray talking about policies and glad-handing people.
She would have made mincemeat of both Trump and Pence on the campaign trail.
I understand why Harris was chosen as Biden’s running mate. She ticked a lot of boxes, more boxes than Klobuchar. But Harris was a lousy campaigner. That’s why she had to suspend her presidential campaign. She wasn’t able to raise enough money because she just wasn’t an exciting candidate.
She had a lot going for her but couldn’t seem to put the pieces together and get her candidacy off the ground.
If Biden was set on a woman VP, I think his best choice would have been Klobuchar. His worst choice was the one that he made, Harris.
I understand that if he had chosen Klobuchar, he would have been accused of choosing a white woman over a woman of color. Especially by Black voters to whom Biden owed his candidacy. They rescued his candidacy in the South Carolina primary. He owed them. He needed to choose a woman of color for his vice president.
In my opinion, any one of those women would have made a better candidate and a better VP than Harris.
In the end, Biden made the classic elderly man mistake, he chose the candidate that he knew best rather than the most qualified candidate. Harris had worked with Biden’s beloved son, Beau when they were both attorneys general of their respective states.
Elderly people are more comfortable around people that they have known a long time than they are with people that are new to them. Additionally, in Biden’s mind, the fact that Beau had known and liked Harris acted as Beau’s endorsement of her as vice president.
So here we are with what should be the most exciting vice president in our nation’s history and she is practically invisible.
Why am I concerned about that?
2024. That’s why I’m concerned. Notwithstanding Biden’s claims to the contrary, he will not be running in 2024. Harris will most likely run. And lose big.
Harris will run as the second term of the Biden administration like Biden ran as the third term of the Obama administration. Provided Biden is successful getting his infrastructure and American Family plans enacted, that would seem to be a really strong platform for her to run on.
Except that we are back to the fact that she is a lousy campaigner. Add to that, her near invisibility while Biden is president, and you have a recipe for disaster in 2024. We need a strong candidate to run against Trump or whatever Trump wannabe the Republicans nominate.
So, has anybody seen Kamala lately? 2024 is calling.
