There has been a broad spectrum of emotional reactions to the Supreme Court overturning Roe v. Wade. On the Left, there’s shock, anger, frustration, and fear; on the Right, joy, gratitude, smug righteousness, and…anger.

Yes, you read that right. Conservatives won the day. Roe is no more, but some have the same reaction as liberals, they’re angry. Why is that?

In my view, there are at least two issues driving this feeling. One is short-term and transient, the other is longer-term and indeed, for some, permanent.

The short-term issue— the need for admiration and respect

First of all, I should be more precise. Some of the anger on the Right wasn’t a reaction to the Roe ruling per se, it was a reaction to the reaction.

Predictably, protests against the decision erupted across the country and various leaders across society weighed in. Condemnation from the healthcare community included the American Medical Association, American Academy of Family Physicians, American Academy of Pediatrics, World Health Organization, and more.
