A Pakistani’s Plea to All Americans Amidst 2020 Elections
The time of elections is nigh and the people of the strongest ‘free world’ country are again subjected to the ravings of a madman, who just might sway them again in his favor. Trump is a person who has made a mockery of the prestigious office he holds, and the amount of emotional abuse his whimsical and sometimes downright abhorrent behavior has put Americans and the world through has made people somewhat numb to it, to the point that no one is surprised anymore when they hear that Trump has yet again done or said something stupid.
An Unparalleled Lust for Power
I remember when Trump ran for office the last time. He reached new lows of behavior unbecoming a politician by his complete lack of morals and ethics. It is incredulous to know that he does not even condemn the Ku Klux Klan or Neo-Nazis just because they vote for him.
The cases of police brutality against minorities in America, especially black people, have rapidly escalated; the tragic murder of George Floyd is but one of the many examples of the misuse of power and the oppression faced by minorities. I have no reservations when I say that Trump represents the most bigoted and truly unprogressive portions of society in America.
It is at this point that you, as a voter, should ask yourself these questions; Is this the person who should represent in all aspects one of the most progressive countries in the world? Is this the standard that politicians and even humans everywhere should inspire to? Will this be the black chapter in America’s history where a whole nation followed a man who massacred the ethos and respect of America for economic gain?
A Bigoted and Incapable President
I remember when despite all of his shortcomings, Trump still managed to win the presidential elections. One of the first things that he did was introduce the ‘Trump Travel Ban’, which banned the entry of people from Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, and Yemen into America. This is enough to prove his bias against Muslims, an emotion that Americans do not share, proven by how judges in different places all over the country moved against his oppressive policies.
His administration has consequently failed to deal properly with all of the international threats faced by America. Even if you choose to turn a blind eye on that, the president’s inability to deal with the threat of COVID-19 and the price that so many Americans paid in the blood is proof that this man cannot be trusted with the lives and hopes of an entire country.
The Don Quixote of Democracy
At this point, Trump almost feels like the fictional character Don Quixote, because the human mind is unable to comprehend that in reality a human can be born with such an innate inability to see past his own failings. Not that it would surprise you, but Trump publicly encouraged his voters to cast votes twice, which is a very serious crime, not to say that it undermines the democratic foundations that the country was built on.
What Happens in America Affects the Whole World
The election process is already very fragile and the president still does not refrain from his antics just so that he might win the elections again. The crux of the matter is that his actions do not affect America alone, which is why a person like me who lives continents away from this whole fiasco is so invested in it.
It is the way of the world that the nations in power directly affect the well-being of less developed countries, and Pakistan especially stands a lot to lose due to its past and present relationship with America. Being the leader of such a powerful country, Trump has the power to shape the future of the entire world, and right now, at this moment, that future looks very bleak.
Make America Think Again
I urge you, eligible voters, who can stop the worst from happening, to use your vote like the powerful tool it is. Do not let one man’s vanity destroy all the progress that the civilized world has achieved. It is up to you to choose a leader who will lead your country into the beautiful horizons of the future, and that is all I have to say to you.
