Governor Cuomo Made $5 Million From His Covid Book.
No matter what scandal his administration has faced, he continues to be able to line his pockets.
As frustrated as Democratic lawmakers like Joe Manchin or Kyrsten Sinema might make me, there are few who thoroughly disgust me more than my own Governor Andrew Cuomo, particularly after the scandals his administration has faced in recent months. Considering the fact that I work in a nursing home and witnessed firsthand how this virus affected the elderly and my coworkers, it should go without saying that the story regarding the Cuomo administration’s deliberate cover up of the nursing home death toll has felt more personal than arguably any other. So of course, the news that Cuomo’s tax returns revealed he made over $5 million dollars on his book parading his supposedly stellar leadership throughout the pandemic has felt like a slap in the face.
The news was revealed at the same time his administration is being investigated for whether or not it used state resources to write the book.
At the very same time Cuomo was allegedly having his aides write his self-serving book for him, his administration was actively covering up the death toll in nursing homes under his leadership, and he went on to make millions.
Accountability within the Democratic party is a farce at best, and absolutely nonexistent worst. If Cuomo continues to remain in office after the scandals his administration has faced in the past six months alone, then there are literally no standards for corporate Democrats who the powers that be have determined they want to stay in power regardless of what they’ve done. If they don’t like you, they’ll toss you aside in a heartbeat the moment they can. For instance, Al Franken comes to mind.
That doesn’t seem to apply to Bill Clinton, Joe Biden or Andrew Cuomo, though.
Whether it be the allegations of sexual misconduct or the covering up of the death of thousands of elderly New Yorkers because of his policies, it’s been sort of surreal to watch Cuomo actually coming out on the other side of these scandals without any serious efforts for impeachment.
What does that say about the Democratic Party? What does that say about the state of politics in the United States in general? There has never been a more optimal time for the left to oust Cuomo from power, and I hope we put all our efforts in the State of New York to do so. I cannot stomach the thought of him being able to get away with everything he’s been getting away with, and I’m sure I’m not alone in feeling that way.
Whenever Cuomo’s scandals come up again in the news, I cannot help wondering how his supporters would be reacting if it was Donald Trump. Of course, we should also be considering how Trump’s supporters have responded to Cuomo’s scandals as opposed to Trump’s. Personally, the two men serve as a reminder of the fact that here in the United States, more often than not even the most basic issues of morality and right and wrong are politicized.
I’m hoping that in the upcoming election at least, Cuomo will get the accountability he deserves.
