Gaza: A Wake-Up Call to Our Complicity
The emerging trend of deliberately ignoring global events is deeply concerning.
A friend of mine often mentions how she chooses to ignore the atrocities occurring in the world.
As someone who has always been struck by such complete detachment, I find it challenging to comprehend this mindset.
Yet, she’s not alone. She is the norm, and I am becoming the exception.
Some people who are very close to me also refuse to watch the news on television and only use social media to inform others about their lives, not to stay informed.
Both deliberately choose to ignore, not to see, not to know, arguing that this is for the sake of their mental health and that of those around them, concluding that such knowledge will not contribute to a better world.
This peculiar choice sounds legitimate to those who hear it, especially coming from those who seem to “know better than the common people.”
Arguments about people who might be more sensitive to violent images can be understood, yet they are arguable.
Some people claim that witnessing those images leads to insomnia and disturbs their peace of mind.
