Truth Social, Trump’s attempt to return from social media exile, was supposed to the crown jewel of his post presidential life. Backed by serious capital and a political base looking for an alternative to traditional social media, Truth Social was supposed to immediately compete with Facebook and Twitter.

Trump seemed energized prior to Truth Social’s launch:

We live in a world where the Taliban has a huge presence on Twitter, yet your favorite American President has been silenced. This is unacceptable.

And yet, just a few weeks after launch, the app is failing spectacularly.

What went wrong?

1. Truth Social is already under federal investigation.

Talk about an inauspicious start. Before even launching, separate federal regulators at the Securities and Exchange Commission and the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority have opened inquiries into the Trump Media and Technology Group (TMTG), the parent company of Truth Social.
