How to setup MetaMask and trade on Polygon Network using Polkaswitch
Welcome to Polkaswitch! Are you trying to trade on the Polygon network but having trouble? In this article we’ll explain how to setup your MetaMask wallet on Polygon and move assets from your Ethereum wallet (on Ethereum mainnet) to your wallet on Polygon(Matic) mainnet using Metamask.

1. Download and Setup Metamask
Before we get started, the first step is to download and setup a MetaMask wallet. MetaMask is a free and secure browser extension that allows users to seamlessly interact with the Ethereum blockchain. If you haven’t already done so, you can download and configure MetaMask here.
2. How to setup MetaMask on Polygon Using Polkaswitch
Once you’ve setup your Metamask wallet, the next step is to connect Metamask to Polygon’s (Matic) Mainnet. We’ve automated this process to make it as simple as possible.
- First head over to app.polkaswitch.com. Select Polygon from the Network dropdown menu. Next, click ‘Connect Wallet” in the upper right corner of your screen.
2. From the dropdown menu, select MetaMask.
3. MetaMask will open and ask “Allow this site to switch the network?” Click “Switch network”.
4. Select a wallet account that you would like to use with MetaMask and click “Next”.
5. Almost there! To confirm, click “Connect”.
Congratulations! You are now connected to the Polygon(Matic) Network using MetaMask!
3. Transferring your ETH/ERC20 assets from Ethereum Mainnet to Polygon(Matic) Mainnet
Some important notes before we begin:
- To move assets from Ethereum Mainnet to Matic Mainnet we will use Polygon’s Web Wallet software at https://wallet.matic.network/.
- If you are transferring Ethereum or ERC-20 assets, make sure you have the “PoS Bridge” selected as the transfer mode. If you are transferring MATIC, you will need to select the Plasma Bridge instead. This process should be automated but still handy to know.
- In order to transfer assets from your Ethereum to Polygon/Matic network, you must have enough ETH in your wallet to pay for gas fees.
Let’s get started!
- Head over to https://wallet.matic.network/ and connect your MetaMask Wallet. Make sure you are on the Ethereum network on Metamask. Follow the next steps to sign the transaction and click “Sign”.
2. Click “Move funds to Matic Mainnet” to start the transfer of assets from Ethereum Mainnet to Matic Mainnet.
3. Select the asset you would like to transfer in the “FROM” section and click “Transfer”.
4. A few warning windows will pop-up. Carefully read over and then click “Continue” on each screen to confirm.
MetaMask wallet will now open in your browser. Click “Confirm” to start the transfer process.
5. The transfer of your assets from Ethereum Mainnet to Matic mainnet has now started. You will see the following screen below. (these are example screens)
This process can take a while depending on network demand(ie. several minutes). You can track the progress of this transaction using Etherscan.
6. After the transaction completes, you will see the following screen below. Congrats! You have now successfully moved assets from Ethereum mainnet to Matic Mainnet.
7. Open MetaMask, select “Matic Mainnet” from the dropdown menu to see your matic-based assets in your wallet. Welcome to the Polygon(Matic) network!

- Go to app.polkaswitch.com and make sure your wallet is on the “Matic Mainnet” in MetaMask.
2. Select the assets you want to swap and select “Review Order”.
3. Review the transaction details and click “Confirm Order”.
Confirm the transaction on MetaMask and wait for the transaction to complete. That’s it! Welcome to the future of trading on layer 2 with Polygon.
