Welcome back Pollenators, to the next instalment in the Pollen Dev Blog.

The team are working hard behind the scenes to ensure that the next stages of development are delivered upon. Current focuses are on releasing the various versions of the product. But let’s talk a little more about that later.

In this edition of Pollen’s Dev Blog:

  • What we’ve been focusing on
  • An update on the Pollen DeFi Whitelist Beta
  • Chances to hear the team speak

What are we focusing on this week?

We are in full throttle mode right now.

The vePLN working group (with members from all the dev teams) emerged from a deep rabbit hole of daily meetings with a token locking strategy and document. We began implementing it about 2/3 of the way through the design process because some elements were already clear, while other decisions and parameters are being set in parallel.

Interestingly this caused us to discuss some changes to the protocol; for instance we are now clear that users are really playing against the market, rather than each other. Therefore we’ve proposed adding a virtual portfolio that produces a market benchmark, to which users’ performance can be compared. This will iterate, and also evolve as Pollen appears on more chains in the future.

Many of the team’s discussions revolve around users these days, what features they will like and expect, what makes it easier for them to use (while still allowing good options for advanced users), and how to align incentives so users will benefit. These discussions keep us focused, helping us make some very back-end decisions with a view to the product and how people will use it.

Product Owner Ann Willmott held a governance workshop that teed up some decisions for the team to make, providing a comparison to some well-known DeFi governance standards. Looking ahead we can see that governance can be a very active area for Pollen, which may increase in complexity. For now we are excited to set up a basic governance system that users can interact with right away, for instance by proposing and voting for the addition of new tokens to the virtual portfolios.

  • The implementation team is mostly focused on vePLN implementation, while also completing testing for the Asset Pool MVP. Somehow our auditors in Kyiv have kept working, and our thoughts are with them every single day.
  • The modeling team’s work typically involves projects that take longer to complete, so they continue evolving the all-important areas of Data Aggregation (which eventually will be hivemind data services) and PollenSkill, our reputation engine.
  • UI/UX, in contrast, does a thousand small things all day every day! From bug fixes to adapting the interface to add new features to communicating with users, these guys have a giant backlog that never seems to get any smaller.

Ahead, we will be working towards additional auditing, which will help us get to Mainnet launch. We are focused on Avalanche and making Pollen successful there, and as a team, we are also beginning to strategize about other chains and layer 2s. This will be a rapidly evolving area, and one we are sure users will have opinions about.

In the last few months, we’ve begun iterating more tightly with each other across the various Pollen teams. Soon we can look forward to iterating in a tighter loop with a wider base of users, and that’s going to be both challenging and very fulfilling!

The Pollen DeFi Whitelist Beta

As we enter the final weeks of the Whitelist Beta, now is a good time to give you an update. This will be the penultimate update regarding the Beta before its closed!

We’re approaching the final hurdle, will the current leaders be able to maintain their lead?

The regular presence at the top of the leaderboard, CaedraLL, has claimed back their spot on top — and extended their lead by quite some distance. The volatility in the market as of recently must have been a catalyst for CaedraLL to push far in front.

The other top performers on the leaderboard will have to perform remarkably to catch CaedraLL. Find out in the next blog whether they do, or follow the leaderboard live here.

Chances to Hear the Team Speak

Members of the Pollen team have been appearing on a variety of platforms, most recently Sean Bond & Maarten Ectors appeared on the Magnet DAO Discord for a live AMA.

You can listen back to the recording here.

As usual, we have been continuing our bi-monthly Pollen Twitter Spaces. In our last session, we had Senior Software Engineer, Product Designer and Co-Founder, Adam Clarke on to talk about his introduction to crypto, his background, his day to day at Pollen and more!

You can listen back to that here.

That’s all for this edition of Pollen Dev Blog. To ensure you’re as up to date as possible with everything happening at Pollen, follow our socials. You can find them linked below.
