A superstar conservationist in Colombia was recently killed. Gonzalo Cardona Molina was a Colombian conservationist who is responsible for saving two species of parrots: the yellow-eared parrot and the indigo-winged parrot. Molina was particularly important in the restoration of the yellow-eared parrot population, which was thought to be extinct for a while.

He and his team regularly ran into battles between guerilla militias and the military, which made his efforts especially risky. Reports say that it was at the hand of a criminal gang that he died.

“However, Mr. Molina is not gone: he lives in every yellow-eared parrot that flies joyfully through the skies, he can be found in every wax palm that was planted in his name, and he lives in everyone whose life has been touched by his actions.”
