Working with the elemental beings is one of the great gifts of my life but there are a few things it took me a while to understand. One of them is their relationship to that which humans call money.

First I must tell you that I work with elemental beings called the wedeme (weh-da-may). The wedeme are the elemental beings of the land and wild. This name for the elemental beings of the land and the wild comes from the Dagara tradition of Burkina Faso in West Africa. In this same tradition the elemental beings of the water are the kontomble. Kontomble is a word more well known in the west because it is also the generalized term of all elemental beings in the Dagara tradition. The wedeme fall under the category of kontomble but are differentiated from them as being associated with land and wild as opposed to water. The term kontomble has caught on more in the west for many reasons. In this article I am talking about the wedeme, because that is who I work with.

By elemental beings, I am referring to beings similar to what Europeans and their descendants call gnomes, elves and trolls. Beings that live in intimate relationship with the earth and the processes of the land and the telluric realm. Like wedeme they are often associated with caves and trees…
