Should polyamory be considered part of the LGBT+ community?
Polyamory is common among LGBT+ people with gay men being the most likely group to be polyamorous. Some types of polyamory are inherently part of the LGBT+ community: when three people are all dating each other (in a triad or throuple), at least two of the people must have a sexual orientation under the LGBT+ umbrella. But it’s possible to be polyamorous and not otherwise part of the LGBT+ community. Should these people also be included in the LGBT+ acronym?

The difficulty of working out whether a category should belong in the LGBT+ acronym is that its definition is just a list of the categories that it includes. If a ‘P’ was added to the end of the extended acronym, then polyamory would be included but this only answers whether polyamory could become part of the LGBT+ community rather than whether it should.
LGBT+ is the most widely used but there are other words that can be used as descriptors for the LGBT+ community.
