Cybersecurity startup debuts threat detection marketplace that provides early detection for emerging cyber threats; selected enterprises and MSSPs invited to try subscription service free

SAN FRANCISCO - March 04, 2019 - Cybersecurity startup, PolySwarm, built a threat detection ‘marketplace’ that re-envisions the traditional way of detecting malware. Security experts make money for correctly detecting threats via their scanning engines, while businesses charged with safeguarding their organizations get instant answers and intelligence on potentially sketchy files.

After partnering with over 25 antivirus companies and security experts, PolySwarm today announces that its two-sided marketplace is now open to enterprises and Managed Service Security Providers (MSSPs) who are invited to try the service free.

“Currently, incident response teams in organizations primarily use VirusTotal as the go-to ‘database’ to determine whether a suspicious file or artifact is malicious, but our platform is more effective for a number of reasons,” says PolySwarm CEO and Founder Steve Bassi. “PolySwarm is differentiated by economic incentives to increase quality and effectiveness of threat identification. Scanning engines in PolySwarm are rewarded for accurate determinations in their fields of expertise, which means enterprises using our subscription service benefit from broader coverage and increased accuracy.”

Bassi knows what he is talking about; he has been involved in threat detection and intelligence for over 20 years. His prior company, Narf Industries, was awarded a grant by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to build and implement a blockchain security identity program and built encryption projects on behalf of DARPA. Bassi would find that the custom tools he and his team built to detect threats would sit on a shelf and collect dust. With PolySwarm, security experts can monetize their tools while enterprises and MSSPs have access to a real-time crowdsourced network of specialized scanning engines.

“Security analysts and large companies that need to detect threats and keep them out of their networks benefit from the combined wisdom of detection tools from around the world — rather than the limited protection provided by a single security vendor,” says Bassi.

Companies can schedule a time to meet with the PolySwarm founders at RSA, a cybersecurity conference in San Francisco, March 4–8, 2019, and discuss the by-invitation trial. Click HERE to schedule a meeting.
