Open Slack communities are all the rage these days, and I’ve joined quite a few of them myself. Most, though, are either way too active or just plain dead. One excellent exception to this is the POMQA writers’ group for people of Medium (POM) everywhere.

POMQA is a vibrant group of Medium users, all passionate about reading and writing quality content. By working together, we help each other discover great writing and become better writers ourselves. Take this post by one of our group moderators for example:

Another Medium user, Deborah Foster, was wondering why none of her writing was gaining any traction around here. It’s a common problem and can be really frustrating — so much so that Deborah was thinking she might need a ghostwriter to attract a bigger audience. But all she may have needed, as Todd Hannula pointed out, was a group of like-minded individuals to share her struggles with and to turn to for help in driving more traffic to her work.

We all know the kinds of articles that get the most attention around here, so it can be really hard for anything that isn’t a listicle, self-help, or startup news to rise above all this relative noise. And don’t even get me started on the struggles of fiction writers here! At POMQA, though, we’re working on a solution to this problem, too.

Out of all the great discussion that goes on at POMQA came an idea for a fiction-focused publication: Made Up Words. It’s only been around for about a month — and was soft-launched just a couple of weeks ago — but it’s already packed full of great fiction and will only get better as the talented team of editors, designers and writers keeps contributing to it. And POMQA made this all possible.

It truly is a virtuous cycle. Working together, we help each other find great stuff to read and fuel great writing of our own, but we can’t have anything interesting to write about if we don’t step away from our screens! So in the spirit of POMQA, I’ll leave you with another great piece of writing in another Medium publication (that should require no introduction).

Come and join the conversation at POMQA and keep the cycle going!
