On Going to a New Church

Reflections of an introvert

I’m a self-professed introvert. I don’t like crowds much and it’s not easy for me to be around people I don’t know. But somehow church is different. Somehow I almost always feel welcome, even when I don’t know anyone in the congregation.

It’s the bond of same beliefs, yes, the bond of like minds and like traditions. But it’s something more. There is that space filled with the presence of Someone unseen, the One listening to the prayers and songs and words from His own book. That space draws us in, encompasses our lives, our pain, our longings and somehow fills us.

And when we leave we feel as though we’ve been at home, after all.
