In “Not Alike,” the ninth track on the new album, co-starring Royce Da 5’9’ sings:

Remember everybody used to bite Nickel, now everybody doing Bitcoin.

Eminem shook the entire world by releasing the album in eight months after his last album “Revival,” which was released last December.

Eminem’s direct mention of bitcoin in the lyrics as well as his surprise release of his new album made it to the top trending topic at the time. The press worldwide hurriedly gave out their interpretations.

Forbes’ article on Eminem

U.S. Forbes notes cryptocurrency’s leap towards the mainstream

According to Forbes, Bitcoin and cryptocurrency have taken another step toward mainstream awareness with a mention by Eminem, which can be seen as a sign that bitcoin is slowly penetrating to different levels of society. Coindesk, a news media specializing in cryptocurrency, evaluated, “While the crypto citation is unlikely to bump the price of bitcoin, it comes as the latest mainstream entertainment industry reference to the top cryptocurrency by market valuation.”

Not only did Eminem, but the world’s top rappers of the United States have shown their interest in blockchain and cryptocurrencies in various ways.

The U.S. rapper ‘50 Cent’ have allowed his album ‘Animal Ambition’ in 2014 to be purchased with bitcoin. In January 2018, it was reported that 50 Cent, just before the bankruptcy, became a millionaire through bitcoin, while himself denied this.

Another U.S. rapper ‘Young Dirty,’ announced his participation in the launch of a new cryptocurrency called ‘Dirty Coin,’ last March. The name ‘Dirty Coin,’ is known to have come from his father’s rapper name, Ol’ Dirty Bastard, who used to be a member of a famous hip-hop group, Wu Tan Clan. ‘Dirty Coin’ will be used as a means to fundraise album production as well as to purchase concert tickets and related merchandise for fans.

Two months later, in May, American rapper Snoop Dogg performed at an XRP event in New York. XRP is a cryptocurrency used on the blockchain payment platform, Ripple.

Hip-hop and Blockchain

It is not a coincidence to have the world’s famous rappers to talk about cryptocurrencies. Hip-hop was born with a denial of all the hierarchies, authorities, and discriminations. Hip-hop, in that sence, shares the fundamental background of blockchain and will also constitute the major part of the POPCHAIN ecosystem in the form of Dapp, topped on our mainnet, scheduled to be launched within this year.

As one of the entertainment brands of POPCHAIN’s strategic partner, THE E&M, Red&Yella produces various hip-hop contents, including concerts, and is solidifying its position as the only hip-hop MCN in Korea. Launched in April 2017, it has collected over 100K Facebook page followers.

Side Chain

POPCHAIN have in common with ‘Dirty Coin’ on its purpose to build a blockchain content ecosystem. However, the operation strategies are significantly different.

Since its first meetup in Taiwan in May, POPCHAIN has revealed its plan to support the production of indie artists’ albums with POPCHAIN CASH (PCH), as an initiative to prosper the early ecosystem. In addition, PCH allows anyone to purchase concert tickets and related products of artists without an additional charge. POPCHAIN ecosystem will be a platform that directly links artists to their fans.

Korean rappers Crush and Loco are performing at the ‘Synergy,’ hip-hop concert.

In addition, rappers on our platform will be able to build their own blockchain content ecosystem with “Side Chain”. Rappers then do not have to pay the commission they have been paying until now, because the ecosystem is autonomous and absent of managers.

Reflecting the real demand of the crowd, the ‘Synergy’ concert, brought by Red&Yella at the end of June 2018, sold out two days in a row. This experimental concert made a tremendous success to have Red&Yella increase the number of concerts in the second half of the year. This is how Red&Yella will grow into a music platform like ‘SoundCloud’, focusing on black music.

Artists are the ones that grasp the change of the generation first and melt it in their work. Having noticed the signs of a change that cannot be resisted, they are taking blockchain into the mainstream. POPCHAIN is with this flow. Hip-hop and blockchain is not that far from each other.
