[POPstory 7] A Simple Yet Relatable Question
"Why?"
On the second morning of the Hybrid Summit 2018 at the Centara Grand Hotel in Bangkok, Thailand, which started on July 28th, the POPCHAIN Foundation’s Head of Business, David Lee, mounted the stage to give the keynote speech at the first overseas blockchain conference that we attended as sponsors.
Lee started the presentation with a simple question that differentiated it from other blockchain projects’ presentations: “Why?” During his short presentation of 10 minutes, he asked the question “Why?” to the audience around 10 times and engaged them.
As he finished the presentation, Lee said, “If we can’t answer this fundamental question, the POPCHAIN Project also won’t succeed.” That is to say, the questions of why consumers should use POPCHAIN with its blockchain technology and whether they even need to switch platforms if the service they’re currently using is cheaper, more convenient, and more fun than a blockchain platform.
The question was concise and powerful.
Lee provided clues for an answer in order. First, he explained how distorted the current content distribution platform is, using specific statistics; how many content creators are despairing because content distributor monopolies charge such high fees; and how this is leading to the destruction of the content distribution ecosystem.
Lee asserted that “POPCHAIN will eliminate all fees based on a more advanced technology than other blockchains.” In other words, we will give back what should rightfully belong to the creators and the consumers. He emphasized, “The POPCHAIN Team will neither interfere, nor collect any kind of commission.”
Revealing the POPBOX video
The demonstration video of the POPBOX, POPCHAIN’s hidden card, was also shown at this conference. The POPBOX is the set-top box that POPCHAIN developed independently with 3rdgeneration PoSe technology. You can mine PCH and watch videos simultaneously with it. The POPBOX is the hardware to the software that POPCHAIN is.
When the POPBOX video was shown, exclamations were heard among the audience. Next, Lee went on to immediately present our plan to launch the mainnet this year and introduced the two main DAPPs to launch on the mainnet, CeluvTV, a livestreaming platform, and Red&Yella, a hip hop MCN.
Our Request
Lee finished with a request. He confessed frankly that he does not think that POPCHAIN can solve all the problems that currently exist with content distribution in one go. However, he suggested that we should all think about the question that POPCHAIN posed there, since it is only possible to change the world for the better with companions.
It was a successful presentation, and Lee received an enthusiastic round of applause. Not only blockchain professionals but also VC personnel approached Lee afterwards to take pictures and hand him business cards. The POPCHAIN Foundation board members, including Lee, continued meetings in the VIP lounge with overseas business personnel who found out about POPCHAIN through this presentation.
Two Accomplishments
The POPCHAIN Foundation achieved two main things through the Hybrid Summit 2018: we officially introduced POPCHAIN for the first time in front of 2000 foreign blockchain professionals and we discussed unexpected strategic alliances with content producers and investors.
The POPCHAIN Foundation will continue to attend blockchain conferences. We will continue to do what we must, based on our confidence in our technology. Our independent meetup in Vietnam is coming up in three weeks. We will prepare thoroughly, and imprint the formula of “blockchain=POPCHAIN” in Vietnam.
