This might be a bit of a surprise, since the tool has been browser-based since launch, and customers have really enjoyed it so far. But the API multiplies the ways that different people with unique needs can take advantage of Popily’s automatic analytics strengths, so they can focus on their own strengths.

Who might want to use Popily’s API? Here’s an example: imagine a developer at a firm that collects and analyzes customer data for online retailers. She might do a lot of her own analysis in spreadsheets with formulas, but clients look at those formulas and their eyes glaze over. There must be a better way to display that data in real time on the clients’ web portal, through which they receive a lot of the other information about collected data and connected services.

With a quick search for “embedded analytics for developers,” she finds Popily (we hope!). Its abilities complement hers, rather than just adding to her work load. She can focus on improving her own platform and its abilities to connect with and collect clients’ customer data. Popily automatically turns that data into visualizations and displays them in the platform. Plus, it updates when her clients’ data updates, and the code generates a link that she can use to view a visualization on Popily’s website too.

The steps to implementation are few: tell Popily where to look for data (URL, MySQL, CSV, JSON, and so on), specify the data type of each column she wants to work with, name a relationship between two columns to explore, ask for an embed URL, and pop that into an Iframe. Optionally, she can edit the title, axis names, and sorting of the data, or filter the data in the analysis. Then she can set the schedule for Popily to update the data.

It is really that easy! Check the API introduction on Popily’s blog to get started, or email awesome@popily.com for help. We’re excited to see the ways you can think up to use this new facet of Popily!
