Marlin, a blockchain network, will assist Populstay in decentralizing home-sharing

About Populstay

PopulStay is a startup based out of Singapore. It is creating a platform for decentralized booking and autonomous property management based on blockchain technology.

PopulStay was launched on the 25th of January, 2018 by Dr. Walter Wang. He himself is widely experienced in providing Airbnb homestay in Singapore. Walter Wang says:

“At PopulStay we are looking forward to creating a highly trusted and efficient community, which will change the market of home-sharing”.

About Marlin Protocol

Marlin is a startup, which is working on a blockchain protocol to provide scaling solutions that also protect privacy. The solution developed by Marlin can be easily integrated into existing dApps, existing and working blockchains, and P2P protocols that can take advantage of the additional acceleration and will be able to be “up to 500 times faster”.

The Marlin protocol has several interesting features, including high robustness combined with reduced data bandwidth utilization and a structure that ensures anonymity. This will be particlularly useful for games, which generate a large amount of data¹.

Make sure to check Marlin’s Whitepaper, it contains lots deep network details.

Reasons for Partnership

Problems, which the Marlin protocol is trying to solve include:

  • High loads during peak times: P2P content distribution between users, who are close to each other and are requesting the same content will solve this issue that traditional systems face due to their nature.
  • High cost of current CDN and storage solutions: both upfront costs and especially scaling costs required for building new physical servers. It is estimated that Marlin can bring down the cost of CDN services up to 90% in the ideal case.
  • Resistance to DDoS and similar attacks: due to the nature of blockchain protocol, these attacks aren’t feasible since there is no single point of failure — there are no central nodes².

These features look very attractive to Populstay, as a partner. Indeed, the CMO of Marlin, Dean Pappas, says,

“Populstay is a great example of a DApp that has a seamlessly amazing user experience from end-to-end. Our partnership helps maintain this user experience by providing a fault-tolerant uptime solution to their infrastructure and continues to expand the Marlin world of great partner applications.”

Marlin is expected to bring reliable access, and that will benefit hundreds of dApps, including Populstay. Besides, Marlin has a wide range of other established partnerships with content publishers (Clip, TVF, and Gamedex), video streaming solutions providers (Wistia and Cincopa), data centers, blockchain partnerships, just to name a few. This adds credibility to the network.

Populstay, in turn, has a good number of established partnerships as well. Populstay has teamed up with such blockchain networks as Origin, Jura, Qtum and others. Find the full list here.

The Populstay team believes that this partnership will be mutually beneficial and will bring strategic value to both sides.
