My Secret Luxury is an online retailer featuring expertly crafted, premium adult toys that use body-safe materials and are high-tech. They support and engage in your pursuit of passion and pleasure through accurate sexual health and wellness education and a carefully curated collection of high quality healthy products that embody, style, design and functionality.

How long did it take your company to start earning money? What should have to be done to monetize a business?

My Secret Luxury started making money four months after launch. We hit break even within the first year. My Secret Soiree was more challenging. We had to figure out the right people and the right processes to make the business successful, which took about 2 years.

What was the toughest part while building your company?

Marketing My Secret Luxury is still very difficult, especially since we are trying to reach the mainstream market when they don’t want to be reached. Breaking down barriers and taboos about sexual health and wellness is difficult and a very slow process. Meanwhile, we have a slightly different marketing problem with My Secret Soiree. We are not a sex toy party company or MLM (multilevel marketing company). We are an education company with professional educators. People still have a tough time understanding that 1) we teach sex education rather than push cheap products and 2) our knowledge and expertise is not free. We are professionals, and therefore should be treated as such.

What is specific when it comes to a porn industry? What is specific when it comes to work in a porn industry?

We are not in the porn industry nor do we consider ourselves in the adult industry. We educate and promote sexual health and wellness with education and healthy premium products. Sadly, we get lumped into the adult industry all the time, and that makes running a business hard especially when dealing with vendors, who don’t understand what we are about or are trying to do. Every aspect of business is much more difficult for us from sales & marketing, finance, business development, etc.

What about the social stigma?

There is definitely a social stigma around sex and pleasure despite the fact that most people have sex. Because of social taboos or trauma or religious beliefs, sex and pleasure can be bad or pleasure is not necessary if you have a vulva. By educating people and helping them understand that pleasure is good and it helps you stay healthy, happy and everyone deserves it…no matter their gender or sexuality…we hope to breakdown those stigmas and taboos and spread the gospel of pleasure.
