What’s wrong with sex chats?

The online research that asks about the stigma of sex chat, the safety concerns and the UX/UI design issues.

The aim of the research was to establish the main pains and things that put off those who are either now using sex chat or were ever contemplating using it as an online dating or entertainment tool. The study that examines the approach of those willing to gain financial profit from using sex chat is yet to be concluded and analyzed.

The online research that resulted in this article took place from 10.10.2014 till 25.10.2014.

Main areas of research were:

  • The stigma of sex chat
  • The safety concerns
  • The UX and UI design issues

The method was an online survey and in-depth interviews with few given subjects. The research group — online audience 123 subjects and offline in-depth interviews 13 subjects

The method

The method included questionnaire to determine the following:

  • Frequency of using online sex chats
  • The habits of using it
  • The habits of using other social networks to achieve the same goals
  • The main concerns and issues

The Questionnaire

  1. Age?
  2. Occupation?
  3. Have you ever used online dating sites?
  4. Have you ever used sex chat?
  5. Have you ever used other social networks for sex chatting?
  6. What other social network have you used?
  7. What are your main concerns when using sex chat?
  8. What are you most afraid of when using online communication?
  9. What are you most afraid of when using online sex chats?
  10. Do you fear being stigmatized if others discovered you were using sex chat?
  11. Do you feel using sex chat as an additional income source is stigmatized?
  12. How often do you use sex chat?
  13. Do you consider sex chat activities cheating on your partner?
  14. Would you feel angry when discovering that you were cheated?

The result of heterosexual internet

Sexual chat room users and found that 41% of them did not consider cybersex to be cheating on their partner at all. Research has shown that people who share aspects of their “True Self” are more likely to have a successful internet relationship. Many people have persona that are seductive, powerful, formal/sophisticated, silly/playful and artistic/poetic. These may represent universal or archetypal sectors of personality.

The popular communication applications include e-mail, instant messaging (private, one-on-one, text-based conversations), chat rooms (communication systems that allow text-based conversation among multiple users) and the newest craze social networking sites (connects people together) including blogs, Snapchat, Instagram and Facebook. We found that participants who declared themselves as older were more likely to make explicit sexual utterances it appeared that the virtual world may actually serve as a screen for playing out issues from the physical world.

Most adult users worried about being set up and entrapped most adult users feared being uncovered and manipulated into something potentially dangerous it can be frightening and embarrassing to come across something you know is illegal on the internet. Some users are utterly disgusted by the ugliness of the UI of most sex chats describing them as — from the 90s, looking like some weird sex ads, looking like some fake ads interfaces more users were worried about the consequences of entering the sex chat: being discovered having their identity revealed 69% admitted there is a widely recognized stigma that marks the people using the sex chat and 86% expressed the feeling that people using sex chat as the source of income can also be stigmatized.
