Portal Network and ICON Foundation is teaming up to build the next generation domain name service on the ICON blockchain.
September 5, 2018 — Portal Network and ICON Foundation signed a strategic partnership agreement to build the next generation domain name service on top of ICON blockchain.
Portal Network is an incentivized and fully-decentralized platform that provides blockchain protocols and projects with Blockchain Name Service (BNS) standards governed by smart contracts. We will be working closely with ICON Foundation on building multiple surrounding products such as Marketplace, browser extension, and many more. We have already successfully deployed BNS-compatible systems like WNS (Wanchain Name System), QNS (QTUM Name Service), and will now be dedicating on deploying INS (ICONick Name Service).
In addition to our BNS technology, we developed a product suite that allows both technical and non-technical users to create, deploy, and experience decentralized websites and applications. Portal Network will also be working numerous BNS integration and features for ICONick Name Service (INS).
What is ICONick Name Service (INS)?
INS, which stands for ICONick Name Service, is a domain name service governed by smart contracts that transforms human-comprehensible decentralized website names, such as ‘yourwebsite.icon’, into addresses that can be understood by decentralized network machines.
INS eliminates the need to copy or type long hexadecimal cryptocurrency addresses. With INS, users are able to send tokens to their friends using a human-readable address like ‘myfriend.icon’, instead of a default address like hxef73db5d0ad02eb1fadb…’. Users will also be able to interact with a contract at a human-readable address like ‘mycontract.icon’, or visit a swarm/IPFS-hosted site at a domain like ‘yourdweb.icon’.
