In early October, QuarkChain has started the TPS (Transaction Per Second) competition. It is the first public event hosted by QuarkChain after the release of their testnet. It is also the first time that developers around the world get to review and try out the code behind the protocol. As a member of the QuarkChain ecosystem, Portal Network has participated in the competition, and we would like to share some insight and the first result of our TPS.

Objective of the Competition

QuarkChain is a protocol that is designed to scale based on its sharding technology. The two layer architecture (root-layer, sharding-layer) allows it to handle more than thousands of transaction per second (TPS). In fact, the testnet data launched by QuarkChain showed that it reached more than 14,000 TPS at its peak performance.

The objective of this competition is to offer technical users to try and push the limit of sharding technology. As most of the blockchain protocols are facing the scalability problem, this is one of the ideal opportunities to have a better understanding of the sharding technology that can potentially become the solution for scalability.

Portal Network’s participation in the this competition signifies our dedication towards finding out more about sharding, which could be utilized in the future deployment of QCNS (QuarkChain Name Service).

Portal Network Result

To run a loadtest on QuarkChain, we have setup environment and started a cluster following the QuarckChain README. We forked the pyquarkchain repo, and was able to get the following result.

As we could see in the video, we were able to get more than 9,000 TPS at its peak performance. This is our first attempt and we expect improved performance for our future attempts. We will be provide constant update to our community.
