To Portal Network community,

Few weeks ago, we have announced our strategic partnership with Quarkchain to work on the Quarkchain Name Service (QCNS). Today, we are excited to share our development progress on this feature.

About Quarkchain Name Service (QCNS)

QCNS is a name service for all Quarkchain users. It is an easy and human-readable account name that can be used to replace the default hexadecimal hash address. As stated by Quarkchain, they will be using an account-based blockchain similar to Ethereum, where the account is the complicated hash address that stores the key data of system state. QCNS will be able to transform the human readable name, “yourname.qkc”, into addresses that can be understood by decentralized network machines.

For instance, users can choose a QCNS, “yourname.qkc”, to transfer QKC tokens or interact with any dApps services developed on Quarkchain. This will potentially provide users an easier way to access the platform.

What is Sharding

For the first week, our engineers has been working on Quarkchain. One of the key features is its sharding, which is one of the methods to scale the current blockchain technology.

Blockchain is a decentralized and secure protocol, but its scalability is significantly limiting the capacity for mass adoption.

- Bitcoin can handle less than 8 transactions per second (TPS).
- Ethereum at current stage can handle around 15 TPS.
- VISA have more than thousands of TPS.

Quarkchain’s sharding could potentially allow millions of transaction per second.

The basic idea behind sharding is to partition a single space into multiple subspaces (shard). Each subspace can process transactions independently, while interacting with other subspaces seamlessly. In result, Quarkchain could increase its network throughput linearly by increasing the number of shards.

As Portal Network will be working on deploying the QCNS, we expect to see a frictionless user experience on Quarkchain for future applications.

Week 2 Update : Deploy Quarkchain on Testnet

This week, we have successfully started the Quarkchain testnet at local to begin the QCNS development.

Starting from getting the necessary library and compiling the smart contract to bytecode, we also managed to deploy a smart contract onto the tesnet.

The image shows “success” for transaction associated with the smart contract.

Thank you for reading.

Stay tuned for future update.
