[TomoChain] Week 2 TNS Update

Recently we had announced our new strategic partnership with TomoChain, a public blockchain for dApp (decentralized application) and a leading force in building the Internet of Value.

This week, we will be sharing more details about different features of TomoChain and what it means to implement TNS (TomoChain Name Service) onto TomoChain.

As mentioned in the previous strategic partnership announcement article, TNS is a distributed, open and extensible blockchain domain service, with similar goals to DNS (Domain Name Service) but significantly different architecture. TNS works on a method of dot-separated hierarchical names called domains, with the owner of a domain having the full authority over the allocation of subdomains.

Why we need TNS

Crypto wallet addresses are hard to remember and difficult to identify. Users are prone to make human-error because of its default alphanumeric address. One mistake in the designated address could lead to an unintentional loss forever. As an alternative, Portal Network developed the TNS standard that enables TomoChain users to use domain names like ‘yourname.tomo’. We believe this could increase the user-adoption and avoid human-error for both TomoChain developers and users.

Why TomoChain — POSV and Double Validation

The TomoChain blockchain is produced and maintained by a set of master nodes in a consistent manner through TomoChain consensus protocol, also known as the POSV or Proof-of-Stake Voting. These master nodes are full nodes that produces blocks and receive incentives for maintaining the network. To become a masternode, there are several requirements:

  1. Must be a TOMO coin-holder
  2. Must deposit 50k TOMO token to become a masternode candidate
  3. Most voted candidates are selected as masternodes

Once TomoChain master nodes are selected, it will go through ‘double validation’ mechanism when producing a block. What it means is that before a master node publish a new block to the chain, it is required to be validate by another randomly selected master node in the network. This duplicated process added an extra layer of security to prevent malicious attack.

TomoChain is trying to be an innovative solution for the scalability problem that many of the blockchains are facing nowadays. By featuring 150-master node architecture with POSV consensus, it promises an instant transaction confirmation at nearly no fees.

For next update, we are going to discuss how TomoChain could reach thousands of transaction per second (TPS) and some of the governance applications that are running on TomoChain, so stay tuned!
