Spas Worth Traveling For

One of my favorite ways to end a vacation is to spend the last day unwinding at a local spa. Nothing beats chilling in a hot tub and reflecting on all the wonderful things we experienced during our trip. Here are some of Porter & Sail’s picks if you are looking for an ultimate spa experience at an amazing destination:

Yunomori Onsen, Bangkok

Located at the back of a carpark, the unassuming exterior hides a trove of tranquility. Head straight through to the light and airy space with five baths at differing temperatures as well as a steam room. Helpful instructions in English outline cultural etiquette, as well as the order to enter the baths.

The communal lounge — a Zen-like space with pale wood slats and oversized fringed cushions — is filled with mostly Asian clientele, all of whom are clad in cheerfully patterned robes provided by Yunomori. The baths only take an hour, but it’s worth setting aside a full afternoon so you can enjoy the excellent in-house massage services, too.

Njuta Spa, Stockholm

While many services are staples — massages, waxes and facials — everything about Njuta feels personal. Expect detailed consultations about your individual skincare needs in minimalist treatment rooms.

The jewel in Njuta’s crown is the private, white subway-tiled spa space, bookable for up to eight people. It includes a traditional indoor wooden sauna, relaxing area, showers, and private outdoor hot tub on a secluded terrace overlooking the waterfront.

The Spa at Miami Beach EDITION, Miami

The Spa is an essential EDITION experience. If you’re feeling jetlagged, try a 20-minute Power Nap where biotech waves put you into a deep slumber that feels like forever. Services are seasonal; opt for a moisturizing Therapeutic Massage with mentholated paraffin during a winter break, or a cooling Oxygen Infusion facial in the long hot summer. Other standouts include a personalized yoga session with a Targeted Massage or Reboot under an infrared sauna, as well as the chance to channel your inner Bond girl in a 24KT Edition gold-infused body exfoliation. Standard salon services are also available.

Bota Bota, Montreal

Plunge into relaxation aboard this innovative Nordic-style spa converted from an old ferryboat. Book a “Water Circuit,” which begins with an indoor steam and sauna followed by an outdoor cold pool dunk and blissful hot tub soak with views of Habitat 67, Moshe Safdie’s condo landmark. Repeat.

Maximize the experience with a sugar scrub, then a glass of wine at the “floating” café.
