Finally, Crazy Rich Asians is out in theatres!
We’ve been looking forward to it since news of production leaked last year. When the all-familiar scenes of Newton Circus showed up on screen, figure how excited foodies like us at Porterfetch were. Think about it — Hollywood, featuring local favourites for the world to see. That’s the ultimate flattery.
But then… Nick Young spills that the satay at Newton Circus is the “best satay in Singapore”. The horror! He might fool Rachel Chu, but we’re calling out the travesty. Any true blue Singaporean would know we’ve got better satays to be found!
We still love CRA, don’t doubt it. But I guess we’ll take it upon ourselves to right the wrong. If we were in Nick’s shiny shoes, we’d bring Rachel to places where Crazy Average Singaporeans love to get their local fix. Enjoy…
1. Fried Oyster Omelette
Juicy, fresh oysters on a bed of crispy potato starch and eggs fried to perfection. Who could resist?

2. Hokkien Mee
A hawker staple. Flavourful noodles cooked in a rich broth, tossed with generous helpings of squid, prawns and pork belly. Whether dry or wet, cooked with thick or thin bee hoon, we love any rendition just the same.

3. Satay
Singapore’s favourite version of meat on sticks. Infused with that smokey charcoal flavour. You’ve got to try our recommendations out to taste the difference. Hey Nick, you’ve been missing out, boy!

4. Sambal Stingray
Supper at a hawker centre is a proper event with the venerable sambal stingray. Thick fins of ray smothered in sambal and dipped in cincalok. Just the thought of it makes our mouths water.
