‘Models for Heroes’ operates nation-wide whilst helping many people in the local area. The charity aims to help ex-military or members of the emergency services with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder by teaching them to build Air-fix models.

The charity predicts to help around 20 to 30 members in both their Tilehurst and Reading schemes, but they have already been successful in helping approximately 50 members nearby in Basingstoke.

As part of making this short film, I interviewed volunteer at the charity, Nick Mowbray. Nick was diagnosed with PTSD after leaving the military and found building Air Fix models was a welcome distraction from his issues. He ended up meeting the founder of Models for Heroes at a model show and decided to join in and aid their efforts.

Nick has not only reaped the benefits of model-making himself, but has also seen the impact it has on others who have been mentally effected by their time in the military or the emergency services.
