1:00 Shares his family’s background in teaching, and how he never wanted to get into the family business, but found himself as a Professor at NYU in Supply Chains. Shares the joy of learning, and how his family inspired him. We discuss changing issues surrounding fast-fashion and sustainability — which led to creation of a thesis around their fund.

SECTION1: Building a Family Fund

7:00 Talks about getting his degree in math and physics. In 2008 he left Lehman Brothers, and was having a challenge finding work. This led him to being headhunted by the Family Office of Jeff Citron. Shares how his background in being an Actuary, and finishing his MBA, and working toward the CFA designation.

13:00 Talks about going up against the best in reaching the height of a pursuit. He shares the idea of how joy and accountability tie into successful learning.

SECTION2: Roots

18:00 Talks about his family in Ghana and the story about his grandfather. Tenacity and resourcefulness led to much of Brian’s work ethic. Tells about his grandfather’s health journey and how he persevered — along with his harvest. We dive into how family discipline coupled with enjoyment of life, gave him a foundation for work ethic.

24:00 We discuss the Founder Institute’s VC Lab program, where he and I met. Brian shares the need for access to LPs, but shares the need to focus on the small things in venture.

SECTION3: Refashioned

26:45 Gives a shoutout to the Plug-and-Play accelerator. Shares how climate change ties into supply chains, and where their fund’s focus ties in. The goal of the fund is to support PreSeed to Series A supply chain focused startups. He looks into the crystal ball, and what the future of their fund looks like.
