INTRO:

1:00 Emil shares his backstory becoming a CEO at Bludot, with roots in cybersecurity policy in Australia. Talks about his vision of mobility and transport — giving the example of contactless payments through travel. They started with the ideas of parking and gas stations, but decided to narrow in on highspeed triggered replacements for hardware toll devices.

4:00 Talks about the transition to the consumer, and micro-moats. Discusses how the individual is being separated from the asset, providing connection to the individual rather than the asset.

SECTION1: Power of Place

8:00 Shares the vision of the company, and the intrinsic power of location. Recognizes the human emotion of place, and how the company is helping to improve the experience of place. Their team has inherent alignment with place, as the team is from different parts of the world, and have contributed to the company’s culture.

11:30 We talk about the technical aspects of the business (B2B location platform), and some of the patents they are deploying. Talks about the barriers the team had when first developing the tech, and how the patents tied into the research. Gives examples of enterprise customers, and how they are using the tech. We discuss retail and contactless tracing, along with the GeoSocial aspects, and their proprietary GeoLine technology.

SECTION2: Contactless Solutions

18:00 Talks about the changes accelerated from the pandemic. The experience highlighted the role of the company in helping to mitigate health risks with contactless solutions. Sees the pandemic, as a trigger for the end of the wild west in the industry — and now increasing demands for consumer privacy. Points to consumer sentiments and regulatory changes already pushing the industry forward pre-COVID.

23:00 Saw a rapid acceleration in drive-through, curb-side, and zero contact for delivery / purchases. Saw center of gravity shifting from business to the consumer — and the contextual aspect his company helps solve. Sees automation, and individual choice controlled by consumer as the trend going forward. Excited about the social and sustainable bridge here; admittedly biased as an investor!

SECTION3: Privacy and Data

26:30 Discusses the stale debate, or ‘breaking the binary’ where people tend to think in terms of black and white conditions. Talks about the contextual and nuanced experience we have with our data. We discuss data comfort, and how we interact with our personal information. Talks about urgent data, or nice to have, and interaction of trust between businesses. Questions how we can measure nuanced risks for interaction.

30:00 We talk about socio-political and personal data sharing strategies, and the declarations Bluedot has made. They are a leader in the tradeoffs they’ve made in the practice, and we discuss the ethical reasons for the choices made. Points to efficiency, payment, social factor, instead of spamming, etc.

34:00 Asks how they can educate the consumer, and talks about how Duncan Doughnuts is a leader in this space, with building trust with sharing location. Talks about solving privacy data through the precision of location. Shares the idea of the distribution value of trust, through brand relationships and other strategies. Embedded experiences can lead to better data relationships with clients.

38:00 Emil shares the vision, and where the company is heading — more decentralized, safety aligned, personally controlled, and geared toward greater social good and environmentally. Excited for their future!
