This interview is part #EVOLve Series with one of our @posi2ive community members — in partnership with Responsibly Ventures. Interviewees have been active in our weekly *VC Impact* roundtables on Twitter Spaces [each Friday 4pm PT]. In each self-paced and self-authored interview, we ask impact Founders / Investors what they are doing to change the world, and why they’re motivated to focus on their area of impact. Hope you all enjoy!

The Interview

Top Sustainable Development Goals (SDG):

  • 1: No Poverty
  • 3: Good Health / Well Being
  • 4: Quality Education

Impact verticals your venture focuses on:

  • EdTech
  • Ethical Artificial Intelligence
  • Health and Wellness
  • Social Impact

Please share what you’re building, your professional background, and what inspired this venture.

We’re building a self-esteem based e-learning platform, and gaming app for children ages 6–14 that leverages data, AI and gamification, so children will achieve their full potential. As a kid, and even into adulthood, I suffered from low self-esteem which resulted in unhealthy coping skills and I knew that other children suffered from the same thing. I then decided to join the Army, develop my social skills and improve my self-esteem, obtain a BA in Finance and MBA, which led to me reaching my full potential. My ability to overcome obstacles after developing my own self-esteem, inspired me to create a solution to a problem that I faced as a child growing up.

What’s the impact focus of your venture? And how do you plan to measure impact?

We are focused on SDG’s 1, 3 and 4. We are measuring our impact through pre and post survey reports, annual monitoring of each participant’s grades and behavioral status reports.

What’s driving your impact focus?

Our theory of change is that if we shift the mindsets of youth, this will lead to a change in overall behavior and that will then lead to a change in overall condition. We will then see teen pregnancy rates, student violence and suicides decrease. We’ll also see academic achievement and overall student success increase.

What are some obstacles standing in the way of the impact you have planned?

We have to build our platform with the algorithms we are developing. We are raising capital in order to fulfill our network effects of growing user base. To build successful machine learning programs, we need a large data set. This is how the technology learns, and ultimately improves the product.

How do you stay motivated?

When our users go through each program, we see their self-esteem improve by 80% or better. This improvement always results in better performance in grades, behavior and overall student success. We know this platform will change the face of education and access to mental health resources which will work to solve the youth mental health crisis.

Tell us about your market, customers, and team.

Our target audience is children ages 6–14. The market is their parents, and the ideal parent has an income of at least $60k per year, earned a bachelors degree, and are homeowners. We also target school counselors, superintendents and principals. We put together a team with a combined 90 years of experience, to ensure the technology is both effective and impactful in both global markets. With my background in finance, and as a military veteran with a passion for social impact helps me lead for this social enterprise. Our educational psychologist Julie ensures we have efficient fidelity and impact measures, the COO Anthony makes sure we are operating effectively, KiwiTech is building the tech with the help of Guy our data scientist and Cas our AI expert.

How do you keep yourself healthy — e.g., mentally, physically, emotionally?

Every morning I perform the following; 5 minutes of meditation, 5 minutes of positive affirmations, 5 minutes of visualization, 20 minutes of journaling, 20 minutes of reading and 20 minutes of exercising.

What are you currently educating yourself on?

How to better understand my customer, ideal customer avatar, and best marketing strategy.

What books, podcasts, or newsletters should our community read — to better understand your area of impact?

No Excuses! The Power of Self-Discipline by Brian Tracey

Psycho-Cybernetics by Maxwell Maltz, MD, FICS

What do you do outside of work, that you like to brag about?

I am a mom! The best job outside of work, lol. I have three humans that I am raising, and I will brag about that all day and night, because it is by far the most rewarding.

How can the @posi2ive community support your efforts? (*Not public solicitation, nor securities offerings)

We just want parents to know that we exist. We need school administrators to know that our platform is an option for their students. This will allow us to educate the masses while growing our user base.
