When I look at you
A poem for my five month old son
When I look you I see the promise of a beautiful day
Your little smile shines as bright as the suns sharp rays
When I look at you I feel at peace
Your handsome face makes my heart skip a beat
When I look at you cry it makes me weak
Because I always want you to know you can depend on me
From the treacherous mountains to the endless seas
My love for you is limitless, even on the days you drive me crazy
Because from the good to the bad
And from the bad to the good
I want you to always feel like I did the best I could
You’ve rounded my edges so I’m more gentle and meek
Everyday I’m so thankful that God gave me you, my sweet baby
When I look at you, I see how much better of a person you made me
You’ve made me realize how much patience a mother truly needs
But despite all of that, I know one day you will grow old and you won’t be little anymore
So on this journey of motherhood, everyday I’ll cherish it, the good, the bad and the poor
The inspiration for this poem comes from being a mommy.
I love writing poetry, and my son Weston seems to love the poems I write for him! So for me, part of cherishing these moments as a mom is writing about everything that comes with being a “mom”. That includes the good, the bad and the ugly.
Thanks for reading!
