Sustainable Design
7 Material Libraries For Your Next Sustainable Design Project.
These material libraries will help you select eco-friendly materials for your next product or packaging design project.
As a design leader at Possibility™, part of my mission to Design a more sustainable future is to trigger more designers and business leaders to re-think and re-imagine why they create, what they create and what materials they can use to minimize the impact on our planet.
After sharing some of our favourite sustainable materials and getting feedback from our digital community, here we highlight seven material libraries to help you find the best sustainable material for your next project.
Materiom
Materiom provides open-source recipes and data on materials made from abundant sources of natural ingredients, like agriculture waste.
Working with companies, cities, and communities, Materiom supports the development of local bio-material supply chains that nourish local ecologies and economies.
Its team is building an open database of material property and performance data for material analyses, digital modelling, and product design usage.
They have initial data to produce agar bioplastic, gelatin bioplastic, mycelium-walnut shell composite, and mussel shell-sucrose ceramic recipes. Take a look at the library and find more about the next generation of materials.
Material Designers
Co-founded by the Creative Europe Programme of the European Union, MaDe (Material Designers) is a project that aims to connect creative professionals and students, industrial partners, and institutions to accelerate the circular economy.
Through the platform, Material Designers allows students to research, redesign, reform, and reuse materials towards a more responsibly designed future.
