We got the dog for a dollar! Then we found out why.

They didn’t charge us sales tax and seemed eager to be rid of the mutt.

The dollar gave the sellers official documents — a bill sale and a copy of the receipt that proved the dog was no longer theirs.

We brought the dog home.

It immediately chased our cat that had been lounging on the parquet floor. Fortunately, our cat escaped, jumping up on a perch.

Then, our dollar dog began eating everything in sight, including roast beef sandwiches the maid had left out for us.

It knocked over my Sangria, licked up the mess, and ate the fruit.

We brought the dollar dog to a training school for problem pooches.

But it soon chased the trainer all over the place.

We gave up on the training.

Now, our dollar dog rules the roost.

But strangely, we love that ugly mutt.

And it seems to tolerate us.

Next week, we’ll bring it on a camping trip to the Adirondacks.

The wildlife had better be prepared.
