2024 Post Growth Alliance Recap & Reflections
Highlights and learnings from the PGA relaunch, plus what to expect in 2025.
We were thrilled to relaunch the Post Growth Alliance (PGA) in 2024 after a brief hiatus. The PGA is a solidarity hub and cooperative social media service for aligned groups hosted by the Post Growth Institute.
In 2024, we welcomed 28 organizations (14 from the Global South and 14 from the Global North) who are working to build futures beyond capitalism and shaping wellbeing economies. From Bhutan to Bahrain, we are collectively uplifting the efforts of communities all over the world.
A Shared Vision
Several members of the Alliance described the PGA as a unique space to connect with groups that have “a sense of shared vision.”
“I could really feel the care and attention that [the PGA team] put into their work and the way that they love each other and the members of the Alliance (people and organizations).”
During casual Zoom cafes and facilitated engagement calls, members were able to learn about each other’s work and pathways for mutual support through the Offers and Needs Market (OANM). From finding event co-facilitators to job opportunities to mental health resources, the OANM allowed members to connect not just professionally, but personally as well.
Hacking the Algorithm
Over the course of six months, we amplified 23 social media posts across five platforms (LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and Mastodon).
We reached nearly 215,000 people and garnered over 25,000 clicks — all without paying for ads.
For over a decade, the Alliance has been “hacking the algorithm” with a simple but effective trick to organically reach over 2 million people worldwide. The Post Growth Alliance Alert System (an opt-in email notification when content goes live) is key to hacking the algorithm.
“Definitely the alliance has really brought more visibility to our organization and to the event we were hosting.”
Give our pages and PGA Members’ social media platforms a follow to catch-up on or discover this cohort’s content.
Looking Ahead to 2025
In preparation for next year’s cohort, we remain committed to centering relationality and marginalized narratives. We also look forward to growing the Alliance and welcoming new members through our cooperative, sociocratic decision-making structure with current members.
One key challenge named by members in 2024 was finding time to dig into more tangible collaborations. To address this, we plan to start the cohort sooner in the year to allow more time to deepen into relationships, offer more opportunities for members to engage with one another, and streamline content amplification processes.
We are grateful to be in community with this inspiring constellation of organizations, and send a huge thank you to the hundreds of online supporters who make the PGA model work.
