Introducing the Post Growth Fellowship

An equitable, post-growth future relies on decolonizing our thoughts and the systems we inhabit, while continuing to nurture a shared vision of collective wellbeing within ecological limits.
The inaugural Post Growth Fellowship, launched by the Post Growth Institute on September 1st 2021, is a 12-month content collaboration with selected post-growth activists, researchers, and entrepreneurs.
The overarching aim of the program is to decolonize post-growth ideas, information, and inspiration by engaging Fellows from a range of backgrounds, fields, cultures, histories, and geographies. The Fellowship seeks to counter the often academic, Euro-centric, English-speaking, white male dominance within formal post-growth and degrowth ‘settings’, simultaneously highlighting the shared nature of the struggle for alternatives beyond capitalist growth dependency and systemic oppression.
The result of a decade-long vision to unify diverse voices with a common, post-growth intent, we’re thrilled to introduce the first cohort of 25 Post Growth Fellows:
- Ted Rau is a co-founder of Sociocracy For All, a nonprofit with a mission to equip people with the skills and knowledge to self-govern and self-organize.
- Sabrina Chakori is an environmental activist and researcher, and founder of the pioneering Brisbane Tool Library.
- Yusra Bitar researches food sovereignty as a means of liberation, in addition to understanding the global military’s contribution to climate change and ecocide.
- CEO and co-founder of Radically Open Security, the world’s first nonprofit computer security consultancy, Melanie Reiback runs the Post Growth Entrepreneurship Incubator.
- Futures researcher, monika bielskyte, is the founder of Protopia, which prototypes visions of radically hopeful and inclusive futures centering previously marginalized perspectives.
- Environmental and social activist, Shrishtee Bajpai, researches radical alternatives to dominant systems, while helping coordinate the Global Tapestry of Alternatives.
- Thomas Hanna is Research Director at The Democracy Collaborative, Vice President of the National Center for Economic and Security Alternatives, and a global expert in public ownership.
- Researcher, consultant and educator Heira Hardiyanti is the co-founder of MyCoolClass, a teacher-owned educational cooperative in Indonesia.
- Associate Professor of Global Development and Political Science, Dr. Caroline Shenaz Hossein is the founder of the Diverse Solidarity Economies Collective.
- Monicah Muhoya is a founder of Sister Speaks Global, which hosts events to expand women’s dialogue; and Heels4Pads, a linked charity to raise awareness of period poverty.
- Author and heterodox economist Tim Parrique is a member of the Post-Growth Economics Network, working to reinvent how we think about the economy.
- Fulbright scholar, Zolo Mendbayar, researches how Indigeneity connects to social justice, which in turn is linked to issues rooted in colonial and growth-based systems.
- Beth Stratford is a PhD student looking at the kinds of big structural changes to ownership, land enclosure and control in our economy required to get within the ‘doughnut’ of social and planetary boundaries.
- Digital strategist and equity advocate Symone Jackson is Associate Director, Digital Engagement at Beneficial State Foundation, a nonprofit cultivating better banking.
- Andrés Bernal is a PhD student in public policy, researcher of Modern Monetary Theory and the Green New Deal, and a Senior Policy Advisor formerly with the Alexandria Ocasio Cortez congressional campaign.
- Artist, writer, and post-growth entrepreneur, Davion Zaire, is the founder of Origyn, a platform to shop with BIPOC, woman-owned and LGBTQIAA+ owned brands.
- A Director for the UN Program on Responsible Management Education at the University of Queensland, Dr Cle-Anne Gabriel researches post-growth futures in the Global South and business models for sustainability.
- Mike Strode is a solidarity economy facilitator and organizer with the Kola Nut Collaborative, Chicago’s only time-based service and skills exchange, providing an open platform for mutual aid.
- A faculty member at Ubuntu.Lab, Robert Wanalo is a patchworker, absorbed in the practice of weaving ideas, relationships, and information into fabrics of possibility.
- Erfan Daliri is a social change consultant with a long career in community development, refugee settlement, management consulting, social change empowerment, activism, and advocacy.
- Camille Canon leads Purpose’s US nonprofit and supports businesses in converting to steward-ownership.
- Economic policy expert Amanda Janoo is Knowledge & Policy Lead for the Wellbeing Economy Alliance (WEAll), and passionate about transforming our economic system through participatory and holistic policy design.
- A member of Centro de Análisis Socioambiental, Anthropology PhD researcher Gabriela Cabaña brings together degrowth, feminist, and decolonial perspectives to ongoing tensions around renewable energies.
- Environmental engineer, Kidist Tesfaye, is the founder of Tuba Ethiopia, which creates job opportunities for unemployed women and youth, while producing environmentally friendly products.
- Djémilah Hassani is a passionate international strategy expert for social economy at the Regional Chamber of Social and Solidarity Economy in Mayotte, a French island in the Indian Ocean.
