Post Growth Ripples: January 2025
How our work has been rippling out in the world this month.
Our mission at the Post Growth Institute is to uplift, co-design, and model approaches that equitably and innately circulate money and power in our local communities and global economy. Each month we publish an overview of our key activities and impact through the various pillars of our work.
This month, we’re excited to share a curated selection of articles, interviews, and updates that highlight how post-growth principles are being applied worldwide, with explicit reference to our work.
Asset mapping is a process that focuses on recognizing the skills, talents, and connections of individuals, associations, and institutions — to drive missions forward. In their article ‘Asset Mapping: Moving from Scarcity to Abundance,’ Rhianna Simes and Brooke Nuckles of Growing Assets LLC emphasized the importance of identifying and leveraging existing resources within organizations, in turn shifting the perspective from addressing deficiencies to building upon current strengths. Referencing the work of our Director of Strategy, Donnie Maclurcan, they highlight his insights on asset-based approaches in mobilizing for social change.
‘Beyond Growth: How to Unveil a Path to Sustainable Business in the Post-Growth Era’ underscores how businesses can integrate post-growth principles into their strategies, citing our definition of post-growth in advocacy for redefining success through sustainability and equity.
‘Post-Growth Pathways: Learning, Living, and Reimagining in Kalentzi, Greece’ is a case study of a village embracing post-growth principles demonstrates the power of grassroots innovation written by former Post Growth Institute volunteer, Rana Zein, who credits her time with us as inspiration for her work.
Donnie continues to be a thought leader in the post-growth sphere, sharing insights in recent interviews, including World of Wisdom Podcast, where he discusses how post-growth thinking can address pressing global challenges (listen on Spotify); and an inspiring YouTube Series with Transforming Worlds, on the topics of Transforming Growth, Simply Being to Ignite Creativity, The Perils of Moving Too Fast, and Decolonizing The Patriarchy’s View Of Being.
Also on YouTube, Donnie’s 2023 presentation on The Power of Post Growth Entrepreneurship was recently uploaded.
Meanwhile, at the Green Media Summit, the PGI is proudly mentioned in Mike Mezzatesta’s bio as an inspiration for his work. And a post by Sociocracy for All on Instagram highlights sociocratic principles that align with our emphasis on inclusive decision-making and power-sharing plus a testimonial from a PGI member on their latest book release.
We also supported global solidarity and justice, highlighted by our participation in these calls to action:
- Sign in Solidarity with a Community Leader Detained in Ivory Coast — we stand with environmental defenders and support global movements for social and ecological justice.
- The People Are Waking Up — This reflection on growing global awareness features our work as a source of inspiration for fostering hope amidst systemic challenges.
The work of the Post Growth Institute has been a brilliant beacon by facilitating beautiful offerings like the “Offers and Needs Market”
