Post Growth Ripples: November 2024
Our mission at the Post Growth Institute is to uplift, co-design, and model approaches that equitably and innately circulate money and power in our local communities and global economy. Each month we publish an overview of our key activities and impact through the various pillars of our work.
Post Growth Events
The Offers and Needs Market circle wrapped up their Advanced Facilitator Training last month, welcoming over a dozen facilitators into the next phase in their certification process. Participants shared how they felt after experiencing the training, saying:
“[This] allows me to see this world with new eyes, more positive, with more trust in the healing potential through connection.”
“Re-Stoking my fire and inspiration and belief in regeneration and the human quality of generosity.”
At the Fearless Cities summit in Sheffield, UK, an OANM was facilitated by Emma Woods (Flourish Economics), bringing together dozens of strangers for a generative exercise. Emma plans to host another OANM for Sheffield Social Enterprise Network and Voluntary Action Sheffield on 10 January 2025. More information and free booking via Eventbrite.
The Development Beyond Growth — Global and Local Perspectives on Just Transition conference hosted by Next Economy Lab (NELA) took place in Bonn, Germany this month. Our Director of Strategy, Donnie Maclurcan, moderated a panel with a diverse array of global voices including: Lebohang Liepollo Pheko, Irene Vélez Torres, Dr. Claudia Hiepe, and Olivier de Schutter. Catch up with their engaging discussion here and check out NELA’s short recap with all speakers.
Donnie also hosted a small 4-hour workshop for ten people on Radical Workplaces in Brno, Czech Republic.
While in the Czech Republic, Donnie led another workshop titled, Post-Capitalist Futures: 6 Strategies for Systems Change.
On the last stop in his Europe trip, Donnie facilitated an Offers and Needs Market in Warsaw, Poland plus presented on “Strategies for a Post-capitalist transition” at Gniazdo Centrum Aktywizmu Klimatyczneego.
Online, Donnie spoke on a panel alongside Christophe Kempkes, Gillian Marcelle, Elise Talgorn, and Sebastian Wolf Siebzehnrübl. The “Rethinking Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A) Systemically” session advocated for a slowing down and engaging in deep listening, allowing participants to explore how systemic thinking — emphasising long-term sustainability, human capital development, and stakeholder interests — can transform M&A into a journey of transformation rather than a sheer transaction.
Meanwhile at the University of Minnesota, Marianna Coulentianos (PGI Director of Research), delivered a guest lecture to students on the topic of circular design and post-growth economics. The class gave positive reviews, with one student sharing in a feedback survey:
“Today really put into perspective where my energy and resources are being utilized, and definitely starting today, I will take a stronger stance around the value of time and labor.”
