2017 was a doozy. It just was.

Even so, there were a few highlights worth mentioning, first and foremost being: the food. As we bring the year to a close, we’re looking back at the best of San Francisco — those spots that never failed to deliver on delicious food and drink, from late-night pizza to mid-work boba, to post-yoga detox salads.

And all of these restaurants are available to order on Postmates, so whether you’re chillin’ on a blanket in Dolores Park or hanging out at home with the roommates, keep doing what you’re doing — we’ll deliver from these spots to wherever you are, whenever you need it.

Papalote Mexican Grill

If we told you the best thing at Papalote Mexican Grill is the salsa, would you believe it? You should — it’s award-winning (and you can purchase it by the jar). Made with fire-roasted tomatoes, onions, garlic, cilantro, and a bunch of other fresh ingredients, it sounds simple, but it’s a semi-spicy explosion of flavor that some might even call life-changing. Is it any wonder that the Side of Papalote Roasted Tomato Salsa is the most-ordered menu item in SF for 2017? No, it’s not.

Blue Barn Gourmet

Any SF local will name Blue Barn when you ask for the best spot to score amazing soup, sandwiches, and salads. And while the soups and sandwiches are good, it’s the massive salads that get the W. Served in a huge carton reminiscent of a Chinese takeout box, Blue Barn’s salads turn “everyday” into gourmet. As far as what to order, we have it on good authority the Detox Salad is a favorite amongst SF yogis. No one’s surprised.

Proposition Chicken

Fried, flipped (rotisserie), or fake (crispy BBQ tofu)? That’s the first, and most important question, when you’re ordering from Proposition Chicken — a Postmates favorite for a good fried chicken sandwich. And after you make that choice, you get to choose again — pair that chicken with a sandwich, a salad, or make it an entree (comes with a buttermilk biscuit and a tomato cucumber salad). Whatever you decide, you totally still have to order a few sides — brown sugar brussels sprouts and garlic thyme potato wedges (with ranch) are our go-tos. So when you order from Proposition Chicken, know this: You probably won’t have any room for dessert.

The Halal Guys

The pioneers of American Halal food, The Halal Guys is an easy choice for the best gyros and platters around town. Plus, they’re open late, which means after a long day at work or a night out in North Beach, they won’t leave you hanging when you’re hungry. The gyro platter is an obvious choice here, but don’t forget to throw in a side of baklava for dessert.

Little Star Pizza

Deep dish or thin crust? Whichever you prefer, you can get at Little Star — they’re pros at both styles. Just look for the TC or the DD on the menu, and you’ll know which option you’re signing up for. We’ll start by recommending a large, deep dish Little Star Pizza, which comes with spinach blended with ricotta and feta, mushrooms, onions, and your choice of fresh or roasted garlic. If that doesn’t speak to you, rest assured knowing their menu is vast — you’ll be able to find a pie that pleases.

Roam Artisan Burgers

One of the things that makes Roam so special is the fact that you get to choose from an exotic range of burger meats — beef, turkey, bison, veggie, and wild boar. Make Roam one of your Postmates regulars, because each of the options is worth trying. And we haven’t even discussed the different burger styles yet. The French and Fries comes with truffle Parmesan fries inside the burger, the Tejano comes with jalapeño relish and white corn strips on it, and the Sunny Side throws an egg into the mix. One of the more creative burger menus we’ve seen around SF, Roam’s options are exactly as delicious as they sound.

Pizzeria Delfina

Try to go to Pizzeria Delfina in person, and you’ll probably have to wait a while to be seated — and that’s before you even get to order your food. So save yourself the wait and just postmate it. The most unique item on the menu is the broccoli raab pizza, topped with broccoli raab, caciocavallo, mozzarella, olives, and hot peppers. The little girl from “Inside Out” may have hated the idea of broccoli on pizza, but — we actually kinda dig it, especially from Delfina.

Super Duper Burger

You thought we were gonna talk about burgers, didn’t you. Not a bad guess, but instead, we’re here to talk about Super Duper’s kickass breakfast combos—specifically the ones that include donuts. If you’re hungover, there is literally no better cure than the Super Duper Super Combo. It comes with an organic egg sandwich (with bacon, sausage, or avocado), three mini donuts, and a large Four Barrel coffee. Oh, and it’s only $8. What a steal.

Mel’s Drive-In

How could we make a list of SF’s best restaurants and not include our fave classic California diner? Take whatever you know about diners, and then kick it up a notch, because this place is the be-all-end-all. Their sliders are the best in town (we’re partial to the goat cheese and turkey sliders, because… goat cheese, but the grass-fed beef sliders are winners, too). Their appetizers are the definition of American comfort food — who can resist an order of mozz sticks? And we don’t even have enough room to cover their salads, burgers, hot dogs, soups, sandwiches, and desserts in detail, so postmate ’em and see for yourself.

The list goes on, but this should be enough to get you started. If you’re hungry for more, check out our list of the best burger places in San Francisco. Otherwise…
