In honor of Earth Day, Postmates has partnered with the nonprofit, The Monday Campaigns, on their Meatless Monday initiative. Today, look for the Meatless Monday place group in the app to find vegetarian and vegan restaurants in your area.
Why go meatless? Animal agriculture is a major contributor to climate change. Skipping the meat helps minimize our water usage which is approximately 1,850 gallons of water are needed to produce a single pound of beef versus 39 gallons of water needed to produce a pound of vegetables.
Here at Postmates, we’ve implemented Meatless Mondays as part of our monthly catering offices predominantly through our partner merchants, to share with the team how healthy and delicious going meatless can be, and how they can often find great meatless options at the places they go to everyday. Our hopes are that we will have a measurable direct impact on greenhouse gases, impact our employee’s meat consumption outside of work, and share Meatless Monday with our customers to inspire others to join us.
This year Meatless Monday celebrates its 100th year. Alongside Postmates, a few notable participants include restaurants Chipotle and Subway, and additionally New York’s Mayor de Blasio has brought Meatless Monday to to 15 Brooklyn schools. These commitments raise customer, teacher, student, and employee awareness and engagement, provide education and revenue to local merchants, and ultimately make our planet stronger.
So we encourage you to make a difference today, on Earth Day. Open the app and order from the Meatless Monday placegroup.
