Postmates is dedicated to supporting organizations that are helping in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.Through our dedicated team called Civic Labs, we’ve been working on several initiatives, and today we’re proud to highlight some of their great efforts.

Here’s a quick rundown of some of the latest efforts we are working on. You can help out, too! Click the links for more information.

  • We’ve partnered with Feed Hero Nurses and used our platform to deliver meals to 46 (and counting) shifts of Hero Nurses in LA and the project will soon expand to the East Coast. Huge thanks to our merchant partners Tocaya, Fat Sal’s, Toca Madera, Loqui and Pizzaoki who have been an important part of this. Donate here.
  • We also teamed up with our friend DJ Steve Aoki and Feed Hero Nurses project to Postmate Pizzaoki Pizzas to UCLA Santa Monica Medical Center
  • With Hunger Not Impossible and Postmakes Pickup, we’re giving food to youth in need through a simple text message platform in Houston, Los Angeles and Boston. Expansion to Seattle, Oakland and Indianapolis is in the works. Get involved here.
  • In donating to The United Nations COVID-19 Solidarity Fund we’ve helped the World Health Organization get much needed equipment to health workers and to support research for life-saving vaccines. Donate here.
  • Through the International Rescue Committee we’re donating Postmates credits so refugees can order food, groceries and more. Donate here.
  • FoodFight! continues to pick up excess food from participating restaurants and deliver the donations to local shelters, food banks and more in need. The month of March has seen the highest volume of donations to-date. Learn more here.

Here’s some more details on how we’re helping these organizations:

We’ve contributed to The United Nations COVID-19 Solidarity Fund to support the World Health Organization (WHO), which is helping to equip frontline health workers as well as track the virus and accelerate efforts to develop life-saving vaccines and treatments. Since early March, WHO has shipped personal protective equipment to 57 countries and has also helped transport lab supplies to 120 countries.

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) helps people whose lives and livelihoods are shattered by conflict and disaster. Currently, IRC teams are working around the clock to respond to and prevent further spread of the COVID-19 in over 40 countries. Postmates is proud to donate Postmates credits to support IRC’s refugee clients in the United States, helping them get the supplies they need from their local community including toiletries, meals and groceries.

We’re truly grateful for amazing people who are positively impacting their communities. We met Michael Bleau through his tweet to us to see if we could get involved in his project Feed Hero Nurses in Los Angeles to help deliver meals to nurses working around the clock to care for COVID-19 patients. We delivered meals from local merchants such as sweetfin, Tocaya, Fat Sal’s, Toca Madera, Loqui, Tatsu Ramen and Pizzaoki to 46 nursing shifts and counting. This has expanded to serving UCLA Ronald Reagan Hospital and will head to the East Coast this week with SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University Hospital in Brooklyn.

One of our friends, DJ Steve Aoki, loved the Feed Hero Nurses project so much, he recently Postmated Pizzaoki Pizzas to nurses at UCLA Santa Monica Medical Center.

We’ve partnered with Not Impossible Labs and Salesforce to help launch Hunger Not Impossible, a simple text message platform that connects food insecure individuals and families with a healthy prepaid meal from local restaurants. Eligible participants can simply text the word “hungry” to a special number that will respond to them with a curated list of local restaurants and much needed healthy, prepaid menu options which are then ordered via text and picked up through Postmates Pickup.

Hunger Not Impossible is deployed and administered in partnership with local community organizations across the country and is currently serving at risk students through the Boys and Girls Club of Houston, FosterNation based in Los Angeles and WilyNetwork in Boston. Expansion to Seattle, Oakland and Indianapolis is in the works.

In other news…

To further support hero nurses, our friends Jimmy Kimmel and Jennifer Aniston surprised a nurse affected by COVID-19 in Utah with a Postmates gift card on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, as well as provide credits to her colleagues. It was an honor to be able to help.

Our own program, FoodFight!, continues to ramp up serving communities across the nation to help restaurants donate excess food to shelters, food banks, churches and housing programs in need. We’re happy to share that in March, we saw the highest volume of donations to FoodFight! in the program’s two year history.

If you’re interested in learning more about our FoodFight! program, please visit foodfight.postmates.com and to sign-up, you can email foodfight@postmates.com.

Our entire company is continually looking for ways to be of service, and if you have any ideas on how we can help, please tweet them to us @Postmates.
