If you’re craving Chinese food in LA, Genghis Cohen is the place to be.
Just in time for the Chinese New Year, we met with owners Med Abrous and Marc Rose — who shed some light on what has made this restaurant, with a unique blend of live music & food, thrive over the past thirty-three years.
“Moving to LA from NY years ago, we were on the hunt for real, good, New York-style Chinese food. We found Genghis Cohen back then and have been huge fans ever since. When the opportunity arose to purchase the business we knew we had to carry on the tradition, not just for us but for the many people that have been eating here since their childhood,” said Abrous.
And while most people describe Genghis Cohen as simply the best New York-style Chinese food in L.A, co-owner Rose thinks it may be better described as ‘classic Americana Chinese.’ “It’s the food that we all grew up eating with our families on Sunday afternoon, or delivered to our doors late at night.”
And while Rose and Abrous are seasoned restaurant owners, owning several other restaurants in LA, they highlight Postmates as a key way that they’ve been able to grow the Genghis Cohen business.
“Postmates is the go-to delivery service in LA.”
“We have a $12 lunch special that’s only available on the app, and it’s a big hit for us… Postmates has been very helpful in growing our business.”
Rose also adds that “in LA, food delivery was a difficult thing to come by… until Postmates. We’re grateful to work together.”
And in celebration of this partnership and of the Chinese New Year, LA customers may be surprised — today only, with free cold sesame noodles, when they place an order through Postmates from 12–5pm PST.
