Keep Our Oceans Clean Today and Every Day
We may not all live on the coast, but we all rely on our oceans. During World Oceans Week, we invite you to support Ocean Friendly Restaurants recognized by the Surfrider Foundation.
Healthy oceans provide habitats for many creatures, in addition to food sources for millions of people, and are a huge part of the economy for fisheries and tourism.
However, our oceans are threatened by marine pollution, and 80% of that pollution begins on land. Debris that’s not disposed of properly can travel thousands of miles across the ocean. It’s estimated that there are over 5.25 trillion pieces of plastic in the ocean with 8.75 million tons added every year. Luckily, many local restaurants are committed to making changes that reduce their plastic footprint and are also serving sustainably sourced seafood.
Even if you can’t get to a beach, you can still show your support to businesses that are committed to protecting our natural resources.
