Today, Postmates CEO Bastian Lehmann testified before Congress in a hearing called: “Disrupter Series: Delivering to Consumers.” In his oral testimony, Lehmann emphasized how measured testing of robotics & expanded STEM investments in the on-demand space, are critical steps we need to take that will continue to guide the future of work and technology.

“The only way to determine whether there is a responsible, measured, and incremental way in which automated robotics can be leveraged — is to experiment. In pursuit of more data, we can build a nuanced body of knowledge around how a technology could be complementary to a human function… And that helps zero-in on whether it’s possible to deconstruct the ‘future of work’ into discrete & separate elements.”

The testimony was delivered with the hopes that Congress will consider advancing a budget to prioritize improving STEM teaching and learning.

“As we experiment with these transformations, our focus as leaders in both the public and private sector must be to invest in the training and education needed to keep up with the jobs of tomorrow. To win the future, we have to create an all-hands-on-deck approach to science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM)… We must make this a priority to train an army of new teachers in these subject areas. Congress, and the Administration, must work to advance a budget which prioritizes: improving STEM teaching; addressing bias for underrepresented students in STEM; and revitalizing apprenticeship programs in this country to up-skill workers.”

To address the complex challenges confronting the world today, Postmates remains committed to engaging all the available brainpower, creativity, and talent in the STEM enterprise.
