Postmates Grows Pledge 1% Program— A Network of Cause-Driven Companies
Today, August 3rd, Postmates is hosting the Pledge 1% builder’s group — a dedicated network of cause-driven companies establishing best practices about how best to use our superpowers for good. With a scalable model to integrate giving back into the DNA of all companies, Pledge 1% is a global movement that encourages and empowers companies of all sizes and stages to donate 1% of their staff time, product, profit, and/or equity to any charity.
That’s why we’re proud to announce that today we have encouraged over half of our employees to volunteer — logging over 2,000+ hours, since the inception of this program in the summer of 2017. But this is just the beginning. And we are confident we can and should do more.
Because ‘getting it’ isn’t just about being instant-gratification givers — it also means getting the communities we live and work in. It means understanding that unlocking the best of our cities, is only possible when we support diverse, inclusive and sustainable opportunities for all. From supporting the growth of local chefs and small businesses, to protecting our environment through a zero-emissions fleet initiative, defending love, honoring troops and standing by our immigrant neighbors or entrepreneurs — Postmates gets it.
As reiterated by our CEO Bastian Lehmann — “The volunteer program has become an integral part of the Postmates culture. Being a company that has so many passionate people here, it just makes sense that we should be promoting how important it is to give back and giving people a great way to do it.”
We’ve formed Civic Labs just a year ago: a social impact team with the mission to tap into Postmates’ ingenuity to build a thriving, sustainable future that works for everyone. Focused on developing programs and partnerships to promote sustainability, food security, and local merchant prosperity, the team is focused on bettering our communities.
As part of the Postmates Civic Labs effort and Pledge 1% partnership, employees can volunteer at any nonprofit of their choice and we’ll pay them for their time up to 24 hours per year. Employees can also use their volunteer time to join one of our company volunteer events such as community garden harvests, or our quarterly volunteer event with Project Open Hand. Having organized events at non-profits such as GLIDE: a San Francisco based organization that connects the homeless to beds, food and career services and Nashville CARES: an advocacy and support group for those at risk of or living with HIV just to name a few, everyone at Postmates is encouraged to give back to our neighbors, whenever possible and support our communities.
