The U.S. Census: The easy way to do your part for your community.

Every ten years, the U.S government conducts the Census, a brief survey of every household in America administered that aims to count each person living in the U.S., regardless of citizenship or immigration status. An accurate headcount is critical to keeping our democracy strong and ensuring communities get the representation and resources they need. That’s why, even during the unprecedented COVID-19 outbreak, we need to remember to do our part to be counted.

At Postmates an accurate count also helps us understand the size of the communities we serve, ensuring our restaurants & merchants can fit the unique geography of communities across the country. That’s why in 2019 we took steps to ensure everyone can be counted no matter their background. And it’s why in 2020 Postmates is deeply committed to ensuring everyone is counted and able to participate in the 2020 Census.

The 2020 Census will impact the highways our couriers drive on, the schools we send their children, and even how we at Postmates make important decisions about the future of our business. Basically, the Census helps us — and the government — understand where we are, and where we need to go.

HOW CAN I PARTICIPATE?

This year’s Census is a little bit different from decades past, as there will be a digital option for the very first time. Households across the country will be able to fill out the online questionnaire by going to my2020census.gov starting March 12th through July 31st. We’re thrilled to see the government use the power of technology to bring the Census into the 21st Century and make it more accessible.

And Postmates sees an opportunity and a responsibility to use our platform to help increase participation in the Census. Postmates will be leading an awareness and outreach campaign throughout the communities we serve to encourage Census participation and make sure everyone has the information they need. We will be sharing details about the Census in 18 different languages through the Postmates app so our customers and couriers can access what they need about the survey.

We want to make it absolutely clear that everyone can and should participate in the Census. Your citizenship status DOES NOT MATTER — you deserve to be counted and represented. We are making it clear in our educational materials the Census will not ask anyone their citizenship status, and any other data collected through the questionnaire is confidential and protected by the strongest of privacy laws. Information provided in the Census cannot be shared with law enforcement or immigration agencies, and we want to lift up that fact as much as possible so no one is afraid of participating.
