Abuse Culture Highlight: Flipped Media and Buffy
Tfw when you realize that even tho Spike was an attempted rapist (for a surprisingly logical reason but that's another story), he was still way more healthy and had more integrity than Angel.
Not that I ever liked Angel to begin with.
See, Angel was gross, creepy, abusive, manipulative - a Glickman, a Grey, a Jackson.
Spike rehabilitated the women Angel fucked up. Spike was a man of his word (he did kill the Slayer as promised, but as I said, another story). Spike actually legitimately changed, organically at that! He consistently reassessed himself against his values and adjusted accordingly.
When he realized he was hurting someone, he fucking stopped and changed his behavior. He sought to restore.
Restoration=to make amends, such that things are returned as closely as possible to their original state.
I hate "love triangles"(they are vees at most, dammit!, not even genuine triangles), male/female bullshit, and the "poor me; I'm the chosen one, but I want to be normal" gak but I always strongly preferred Spike and watching this shit again, I can see more clearly than ever that they did him so freaking wrong.
But that's what happens with media in #abuseculture. People moon over the asshole while the honest but wild character gets fucked. See: Chiana if Farscape, Anthy of Utena (but that was rectified), Mickey and Jack and Martha from Doctor Who, Garnet and Amethyst from Steven Universe, Kif and Amy from Futurama, Hermione from the despicable abusive and oppressive Harry Potter universe, Rue from the disgusting Hunter Games, any other "secondary" character.
