A Film on Sexual Assault

A (very) short film on what can happen in a matter of seconds.

  • Individuals who have been sexually assaulted in the past can suffer from psychological trauma such as PTSD, depression, substance abuse, panic attacks, and a multitude of other disorders, (RAINN). Along with mental trauma, it can also lead to physical effects such as STDs, eating disorders, and self harm,(RAINN). When individuals come forward claiming assault, they are questioned, undermined, and often ignored. The treatment of the latter makes it more difficult for others to come forward, fearing they will be overlooked like those before them. There is no clear solution or way to help people who have been sexually assaulted, however victims should be aware of resources they can use and avoid fear of being disregarded.
  • My topic would address how sexual assault and it’s victims are often overlooked and their emotions are diminished by those surrounding them. It would call attention to the fact there needs to be more resources for victims or outlets to express themselves because often, even if victims come forward, those who caused harm face no consequences. Victims have to continue with their lives knowing that there is nobody to turn to and may in turn feel hopeless or lost.
